Income Support/Incapacity Benefit HELP!!!

Hi, I have just discovered this great site and would be so grateful for any advice. This is my situation...
I recieve Income Support in lieu of Incapacity Benefit as I had not paid enough National Insurance Contributions when I applied for Incapacity over a year ago. I also recieve DLA.
My partner now lives with me and has been on my claim for a short time while seeking work. He wishes to work while he also studies part time. I have been told that he can only earn £20 a week and the rest will be deducted from my benefit, and this is only if he works less than 24 hours, any more than that and my Income Suport stops completely.
I understand that this is a rule of Income Support, so is there no way I can switch to Incapacity Benefit in order that my partner is able to do what he wants to do and earn his own money without my benefit being affected so drastically? It basically doesnt pay my partner to work at all, even though he wants to, it would increase our income by such a small amount that it would be a waste of time! I feel so frustrated by this, and it urgently needs sorting as my partner is supposed to begin a job on Monday and we need to decide what is the best thing to do.
Surely it cant be right that a person who wants to work recieves nothing for doing so or else me, who cant work may lose my money?! I dont want to endanger my health by attempting to go back to work when I know I am not ready and my partner doesnt want to be on benefits when he is willing and able to work but it seems these are our only options. We are both really upset and worried about this, it is putting a real strain on us.
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated, many thanks,
A

You cannot switch to IB as you have not paid enough NI.0
-
Your DLA will not be affected by your partner working. Will he not earn enough for both of you, perhaps with working tax credit added.0
-
Are you receiving the appropriate disability premiums with your IS?0

I will ask about disability premiums, thank you.
I wasn't aware we could claim tax credits, how does this work?0 -
