Hi, I've been using the overdrive app to download ebooks from my local library onto my old iPad.
My daughter loves reading and so we've got her a Kindle paperwhite thinking we'd be able to do the same thing. The problem is we can only find apps for kindle Fire, does anyone know if there is an app for the kindle paperwhite that would allow you to download from a library? My library is currently closed so I thought I'd try here as my daughter is desperate to see if it will work, Thank you!

I don't know the answer to your question but there are masses of free books available on Amazon.0 -
I know this isn't much help but I didn't know you could get ebooks from the library! That's a great initiative. Hope you manage to sort it out on the kindle too0

Its our local library, I think quite a few libraries are now moving into e-books. I don't have a kindle but I had an old ipad and the library had an app called overdrive and then you could download lots of books (they have also started with a selection of magazines). My daughter loves the warrior cat series of books so we got a kindle paperwhite for her so she could use this but we can't find a compatible app, only one for kindle Fire.0

I have been able to use the Kindle app to read books before.
I have an ipod (ipod 4, 2010) and downloaded the Kindle app around 2011 and was able to read the free books. I don't have the app any more (the miniature screen may be fine for some but was way too tiny for me!) so I no longer have the app to check it's name for you, but I was able to read books on the app and I didn't have a Kindle.
I would suggest trying the Kindle app and seeing where it gets you, it could be that they've melded them all into one, or contact Amazon and see if they have any knowledge on it.0 -
All the libraries i know of that offer ebooks do so using the Epub format. There is no "Legal" way to use these files with a Kindle touch or paperwhite. ( the fire is essentially an android tablet, so apps can be downloaded to them to read many formats)
You may be able to download books from the library in PDF format hich the paperwhite can use.

I've no idea how the library provides the ebook files but if it helps...
There are plenty of free apps to convert epub to mobi (which the Kindle can use). SFAIK there is no DRM on epub so I don't see where there can be any copyright issues just converting format.
Amazon certainly used to provide a conversion service - can't remembe the details but you ended up getting a converted book on your Kindle over wifi.
You don't need any app to put books on a Knidle - you can just copy them across from a PC.0 -

The Paperwhite does not have a web browser (other than the clunky Kindle 'experimental' browser) that will allow you to connect to the library network, so you'll need to do any downloads via a PC or laptop, and then transfer from there. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Look on the Amazon Kindle Forum - readers post a daily Freebie thread - they are usually only free for that day so you need to be quick!0
