Amazon refund policy

(Had a quick search for this, couldn't find any duplicate post recently)
Just wanted to remind any new members that Amazon will refund the difference of an item bought from them (not third party sellers) if the price drops within 30 days. I can't find this published on their site, but I have successfully requested a refund on several occasions now.
If you have bought an item and the price has since decreased, try it!!
To do this, click on "Help", then under the "Contact Us" section, click on the "By email" button. Select "Returns and Refunds" from the drop-down menu. Available orders should be displayed. Then follow the instructions.
I usually write something along the lines of "I bought the above item at a price of £xx.xx. I see the price has now decreased to £xx.xx. As this is withing the 30-day refund period, and in accordance with your terms and conditions, I would be grateful if you would be able to issue a refund for the difference of £x.xx. Regards, [name]"
I got about £16 back from one order, and have just done one for £5.
Hope this helps someone

Thanks for that Allan. I never actually knew about this (not seen it mentioned anywhere on their website anyway) but I've just emailed Amazon to try and get a partial refund on something I ordered last week. Here's why:
I ordered two Sennheiser HD202 headphones on the 22nd of August. They were listed as being £11.79 each (from Amazon themselves). The day after, the price of them dropped to £9.99 each. The price had been £9.99 every time I checked from then until I checked again this morning, immediately after the headphones had arrived. Guess what? The price had gone back up to £11.79!
I'll let you know whether Amazon refund me or if I'm just extremely unlucky.
EDIT: They replied the next day saying that I have a refund. It's now been paid in - I'm happy!0 -
Thanks for this Allan. I bought a Tomtom SatNav and by the time it was delivered, it had dropped in price by nearly £16. Amazon refunded me the money within 24hours...no questions asked. Here is a section from their repy email
"We are only able to adjust the price of an order in instances where
less than thirty days have passed between the date on which an order
was dispatched and the time that an item is reduced in price on our
site.
I have therefore requested a refund of 15.91 GBP to your payment
card. This amount reflects the difference between the price you were
charged and the current discounted price. The refund should appear
as a credit on your next bank statement".
Cheers

There is another copy of this thread somewhere as I used it last week. It saved me £25.61 in total and the refund came through extremely fast.
Just to add to that point. I emailed them after a £6.10 price drop and they refunded it. The next day it dropped another £19.51, so I sent another email and they refunded that aswell. Very very impressed!0 -
Somebody posted this last Christmas and I think a lot of people got discounts of things they'd bought in the run up to Christmas which had dropped in price by Christmas itself.
When I did a fairly big order in March thanks to vouchers from surveys I checked the 10 things in the order almost every day for the month and emailed them 3 times I think (twice including the same item in the price drop items) got about £7 back on £90 order and was well worth the effort.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
Initial Mortgage free date - January 2058
Mortgage as of 1st February 2024 - £159,134.98
Overpayments to date - £79.62
Current Mortgage free date - January 20580 -
This is what I use - it lets you know by email if there's any change in amazon's price on a particular item.

I ordered "Just Great Songs" compilation CD for £11.98 on 3rd August for my mums birthday, just noticed today 2nd September that it has been reduced to £8.98. Today is the 30th day since my order, so fingers crossed I can still have a £3 refund.0

I immediately e-mailed them as you recemmended and I have received a reply today telling me that the difference will be credited to my account straightaway. Thanks very much for this. I will be looking out for motre price reductions.

I think the process has changed slightly this is what I did to find the relevant page
# Goto Amazon.co.uk
# Scroll down to the very bottom of the page click "contact us"
# hitin the "contact us" box on the right hand side
# At this stage it might show your order No. to click on - go with it
...or if like for me, it does not show any order number for you, do this
# hit "Email" above or< HEY! I just noticed you can click this!
# copy and paste your order number into the box
# select Returns and Refunds
# Enter the text given by OP in the reply field
I used roughly the following text - and have just claimed £1.03
"The above order being dispatched on Sept 30 2007, The following items are now cheaper:
# xxxxxxxxxxx - now £x.xx
# yyyyyyyyyy - now £x.xx
As this is withing the 30-day refund period, I would be grateful if you would be able to issue a refund for the difference of £x.xx
Regards

***remember it applies to the price of individual items not total order value, so even if 1 item has gone up you can still claim the full price drop of the individual items that have gone down***0 -
I had a bit of a problem, and have sent this to them - confused? you will be in next weeks episode..... everything in blue was sent to Amazon - not very well written, but that's their fault for not having replyable emails.
Dear Amazon,
I sent in a request for a refund yesterday for this order on two of the books. Yesterday the 18th Oct 2007 "outcast" was listed as £4.99 I requested a refund of £1.00 for that book.
When you dealt with the request you sent me this reply (part of)
***************************************
Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.
The discounts we offer for items on our website do vary from time to
time. I've checked your order ############# and found that we
now offer a greater discount on "The name of 2nd book" (it was 3p cheaper)
than at the time you placed your order.
But, I see that the item "outcast" is same
5.99 GBP at the time of you have ordered.
****************************************
I confirmed (by visiting the website) that the price had once again risen to £5.99 and I was going to write this in response
"Hello,
Please confirm that when I made the request on 18/10/07 at approximately 15:30pm the price of the "Outcast" book was listed at £4.99 on the amazon.co.uk website, and that the price has risen 1.00 since I made my request. In light of this fact I think you should honour the price showing at the time I made my request, and issue the £1.00 refund.
Thank you"
But I got an "error reply email" message from Amazon, so now I am coming to the website to use the "contact us" function, I noticed that the book "Outcast" has once again been lowered in price to £4.94
I therefore request that you refund me £1.05 in respect of the book "Outcast" (hardcover) And I have taken a screenshot this time proving that the price is listed as £4.94
I have to ask you why you did not refund me the £1.00 earlier, did you not notice that at the time I made my request the price had been £4.99?
What happens if when you read this email you have raised the price again to £5.99? Are you going to honour the £4.94 price showing on 19/10/07 17:30PM? - which this time I have taken a screenshot of to prove to you it was @ £4.94 and I have added it to my basket at that price.
I would also like to be able to reply to an email from you so that this (or any other) issue can be discussed between us in a uniform easy to understand "conversation".
