In your example, that would very likely have shown to be intending to direct you to the scammers site! Sometimes these dodgy links might even be worded to look similar to the genuine link - but they can't be identical, of course.
I'm afraid your wrong and they can. A link that says https://www.ebay.co.uk can actually direct you to a scammer site from within a scam email. Don't click anything at all in a dubious looking email.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise. Your statutory rights are not affected.0 -
My stolen bike changed hands several times on a selling group on Facebook and I only managed to track it down when someone spotted it as being the same as my post on https://stolen-bikes.co.uk - brilliant website by the way - and alerted me. The big problem I see is most of these groups are closed so unless you're a member you can't see anything posted. This makes it VERY easy to fence stolen goods as the adverts will never show up in Internet searches. It's difficult to find anything worth buying on my local group as there is so much Spam / fake and clearly stolen goods on there, but I've just joined a Worcester group and they seem to have got it right - quality second hand items at a decent price from honest people (ie they actually own the item they are selling!).0

I had a lass asking if she could "Stool out" at a local boot sale, needless to say I barred her straight away, I'm not having that sort of behavior at my booty.0 -
A Question Jeffuk - What did you think she meant when she said she wanted " Stool Out" at a local car boot. You do realise that she meant could she come without a car and just set up a table from a suitcase???:Tcjc178:beer:0

I have been using my local Buy/Sell and Swap page for a year or so now. Its great for face to face cash on collection transactions.
Be wary of unscrupulous sellers of fake, stolen, and items not as described.
Lots of pages specialize in fishing or musical instruments and so forth.
One thing I would like to know is, is there a way to not spam your friends when you post something for sale on a Fore Sale group.
Hi, if the group is a closed group it won't show on any news feed unless they are a member too. If they are and it gets on their nerves they can turn off seeing posts from the group, either from the post itself or group settings. If it is an open group then it may show on everyones news feed!Today was a good day....I didn't have to slap anyone!!

I admin on a local selling group with over 11,000 members. We run a strict group and look at every profile before adding anyone so we hardly get spammers or business posts on the wall. If you get a 'no show' member then we ask members to report and they get removed. Members moan we are too strict sometimes but we explain this when they join and they choose to carry on selling on there, they can leave at any time. We are one of the biggest groups in the area and members say they prefer our group as it has no business ads, spam ads or fakes being sold. We can only moderate what happens on the wall and what we can see, we dot not get involved with problems during transactions as its up to buyer/seller to check items etc and we have now way of knowing what version of events is 100% correct.Today was a good day....I didn't have to slap anyone!!

SCAM emails - one way to spot a scam email is to set your email client to show all emails in PLAIN TEXT ONLY - you will, in most cases, instantly see whether or not the email is genuine and, if it's from someone you know you can temporarily reset your client to all-singing and dancing HTML/graphics etc while you read that email then return your settings to plain text.0
