Removing Defaults Early

Can it be done?

I've got two I recently discovered - £133 and one for £256.

I'll not make any excuses, I formally a very poor person at keeping on top of 'bills' and didn't open a letter for 5 years until recently (any letter).

£133 is owed to T-Mobile and Defaulted in 2013 - so I can look forward to wearing it until 2020.

£256 is to "MKDP" I haven't been able to work out who the hell they are, there's about 2 years to serve on that.

Neither is paid, I'm holding off as it's pretty much my only bargaining chip with them.

Has anyone, ever, had a justifiable default mark removed? There were a couple of guides online - none on MSE as far as I could see, the crux being - write to them, say you're sorry and whatever else - and offer them full settlement in exchange for removing the default marker.

I wrote to T-Mobile, they've basically said no - but if I pay them they'll change it to "settled" which would happen anyway...

Is it possible, probable or even likely they'll remove them - or should I just pay them and hope my credit worthiness is completely destroyed?

It is very rare for a creditor to agree to remove it as a goodwill gesture.
It does still seem to happen occasionally but not often.

MKDP are debt collectors. You might want to start that one by sending a letter to say you don't acknowledge any debt to them, and asking them to either provide evidence of the alleged debt or remove their entry from your credit file.

or perhaps by doing nothing at all..? This will also have the likely effect of starting them down the enforcement road and the debt only has two years left to the six years point. As Tixy says it is hard to get people to remove defaults.

The liars often say they can't remove defaults because it represents "the truth".

Iv had a few defaults removed by just sending a nice letter ;) there is a template some where. Just try and google it and good luck, you can only try
  • Good luck to you. I would suggest the bigger the lender/bank the less likely they are to do it. Its only if an error has been made because otherwise they are required by various codes/industry bodies to record an accurate representation of how the account was run. Could you argue you never received their correspondence (did you move home?) etc..
