Statutory Maternity Pay & Maternity Allowance

I'm hoping to go on maternity leave next year (just need to get pregnant first :rotfl: ) & am holding on in a job I detest so that I remain eligible for SMP as I've been employed by them since last year.

I also do regular self employed work, & imagine this will continue on a long term basis & I pay class 2 & 4 NICs on these earnings.

Does anybody know if I can claim SMP (via my employer) & maternity allowance (from being self employed) at the same time? Tried asking DWP/IR but get passed from piller to post as "its not my department that deals with self employement..."

Sure you can imagine the rest of the fruitless conversations...
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

You can only claim SMP OR MA. You cannot get both at the same time.
At 14 weeks before your baby is due, your GP/midwife will give you form
Mat B1. Give this form Mat B1 to your employer. If you are entitled to SMP from your employer they will pay it for up to 39 weeks. If they cannot, they will give you form SMP1 and the Mat B1 back, and then you could claim MA on form MA1 from Jobcentreplus.
