Where to have lap top serviced??

HI,
I have a reasonably old Sony Vaio that I inherited when work replaced all their IT stuff.
The code on it is PCG-GRZ515G- I don't know if that is useful to know or not!

About 6 months ago my main adaptor blew up so I replaced it at a cost of £100 (I know that was steep but it was the only one I could find immediately as I had a job interview the following day and needed my power point!).

The whole system is now driving me mad and I don't know whether its best to have this serviced or to replace my laptop? I would be slightly peeved to buy a new one having spent £100 recently on this one but equally I have no idea how much servicing would cost and if the thing is actually dying not just in need of minor servicing.

I did have it serviced by a friend about a month ago but its been worse if anything since, so I want a reliable source if I am to service it. I wondered about PC world etc but really have no idea what's best to do.

When on line it frequently just stops working and I have to shut down and restart. I am unable to access anything vaguely secure. And it is driving me mad!!

Any advice would be greatfully welcomed.
Many Thanks,
IT novice.

Ok I am just going to print out instructions re. malware and have a go. I hope I can do it as I'm really nervous with anything that isn't totally simple with my lap top!
Will let you know the result.
