London and maybe southend? Last minute help please

I was thinking of staying in southend (with partner and 1 year old) but as my family are in east london, was thinking of staying in a hotel there and then making a day trip to south end as I could help family out (cant stay due to house being done etc and where parents are staying no option to stay there currently).

However London hotels are expensive no matter what hotel. Was thinking of staying 3 nights from Monday. Need one double bed to sleep and own bathroom. Not bothered about food.

Propbably left it too late but is it possible to get it under £200? Otherwise will have to stay in south end but don't fancy travelling back and forth a hour every day with little one but will do that if no other option.

Is there a reason for visiting Southend?

Not really. As a kid went there so for a first trip it seems easier as it is only an hour away from my parents where I want to be going so they have time with my toddler. Do you have any suggestions? Don't really want to exceed an hours travel as I will alreayd be coming down from 2 and a half hours away so will probably pitstop in london then go to southend for the night to sleep if I have to based on price, then spend the day there tuesday, then wednesday go to my parents. It's not adding up really. DH plans to go to parents every day from southend but I'm thinking that's long winded. Would be easier to be in London and go southend for the day.

Can get travelodge at london city and excel for less than that for the 3 days. Which part of east london are family in, As once you factor in train from southend everyday, that gives you a bigger budget for the london hotels if need be

Walthamstow. So don't mind going edmonton, ilford etc.

Will be using the car, no trains so ignoring the petrol cost and just thinking about the hotel really. Ideally the closer the better but going round in circles. Will do a google of the points you made.

    Got it. Thank you.
  • Have you tried AirBnb? It's an app/site for booking rooms in peoples houses/rented-out houses

Prices have gone up for some of the nights now, so its more expensive. Can get london city monday night for £63 but then they all shoot up to over £100pn for tues n weds

How about london city monday night £63. Then head to southend tuesday evening for £69. Spend day in southend and stay night for another £69, head back to see family on thurs on way home?

So spend 3 days with family and a day in southend?
