Interesting. Anyone any experience of getting a decent reduction from Carphone Warehouse on a sim-free phone such as a Note 4?0

I suspect a lot of the 'haggling' was simply the retailer price matching.0

I'd like a 10% discount on my MSE forum membership fee because the story has a broken link to the haggling article please.0

This is utter rubbish. It may have been true that haggling worked at Currys in the past but I can tell you for certain that this is no longer allowed - KTF is correct that they will price match as long as you prove it0

I'm all for trying for bargains but to be blatantly dishonest ( 10 - the intention of cancelling an insurance/warranty after negotiating a reduction on the item's selling price) I find distasteful. This type of advice promotes the idea that "anything goes" and this from the man who is promoted as a financial guru and an example of good financial planning to young people.

Yes, there is a difference between the two, money journalists seem to forget this.
I price matched a TV at John Lewis and got the lower price. The price then fell within 28 days and they refunded the difference. This isn't haggling.
I tried to haggle at John Lewis on an L shaped sofa costing nearly £2000, they said no, there was nothing to price match at a lower price.
There's the fisherman factor in this kind of research, too many people bragging about things that didn't happen.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Stores that won't accept haggling just lose out. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in Carphone Warehouse Nottingham today £569.99. Their website £499.99. Amazon £449.99. They refused point blank to discuss any price reduction. Guess who gets the sale?

Thanks jamesd, I've now fixed that broken link.0
