working family tax credit threshold

 I am so annoyed. My partner left a month ago, so i'm back to trying to get working family tax credits.
I received my letter today stating I am allowed Child Tax credit but not working tax credit.
I didn't understand so I called the helpline to find out why and it's because their threshold for a single parent is £16,350. I earn £16,500 a year.
I know it sounds a lot, but not in Kent, where the living is higher and so are the flaming bills!
I will not be able to cope on just my wages and the minimal amount for child tax credit.
Hasn't anybody got any clout to make the Inland Revenue review this amount as they have got to be made clear that it just isn't enough to live on?
I was totally flabbergasted by the response by the operator when I exclaimed my shock. He just kept asking if there was anything else I wanted, I said Yes a review to make them realise what the real world is like! don't think he liked that!
Is there anywhere we can lobby to make them review this amount and make it more realistic?
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.
With my love

Hi
How many hours a week do you work
How old are your children
I am a single mother, with 2 children 11 and 14. I have just gone from working part time (21hours per week) to full time (min 40 hours per week). My new salary is £18000 pa and my working tax credit has gone up!!! When I questioned this, they told me it was because the threshold for my earning this year would be £33000. No idea how they work it im afraid but if you are working more hours than before it may make a difference to your payments. Just a thoughtHave agreed figures with all creditors and am now DEBT FREE

Hiya
I have one Daughter she will be 16 in December. My hours of work at 40 hours a week, they've not changed.
It was weird because when I stopped receiving working tax credit when my partner moved in because he didn't want to put his name to something like that (male pride me thinks!) so I just cancelled it but they told me that I was still eligible for it if he changed his mind! That would have made our income £28,000 a year!
Don't Figure out! I'm more confused than ever!
Thanks for your thoughts, just be careful because if they overpay you they really sting you for it next year!

Surely two of you should be able to manage on that income?
Have you tried reducing your outgoings via tips on here?0
