Trouble Getting Charge Removed - SAR Letter?

Thinking about sending an SAR to Barclay's but the accounts would be over 20 years old. If they could not find the information would that mean they would have to remove the charge they have on our property?
Just to say we are not trying to avoid paying, we have already paid the debt they got the charge for. We paid it off years before we stumbled upon the fact they had a charge on our property, we only found out when we tried to remortgage a few years ago.
Just trying to think of a way to tell them that they cannot prove we owe anything (obviously because we do not owe them anything).
