We fly to Corfu in 3 weeks time (26th June) and the mrs passport is nowhere to be found. We moved house recently, and have searched hi and low for it to no avail. We've got a new form and photos, and hope to get the photos signed Friday (today when most of you read this). I said we get the train to London office and do it in person, she says pay for Post Office check and fast track service to be back in 10 days (apparently), whats advisable please? Wasnt there months of tailbacks a while ago?
Any advice greatly received, as we are stressing loads!!

I think that you need to make an appointment in order to visit the Passport Office.
Only once you have made that appointment, can you avail yourself of the Fast Track service.
So call to make that appointment first thing, as your problem is when they can fit you in for an appointment.Call the Passport Adviceline to book an appointment at a Passport Customer Service Centre.
Your appointment may be up to 3 weeks from the day you book it.

Post Office Check and Send 'service' doesn't get your application fast tracked, or processed any more quickly than posting it in yourself.
Neither does it guarantee that your application is correct, accurate, that the photos won't be rejected or any of the other things that can delay an application.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

as above check and send makes no difference! apart from costing more
I sent my application myself on the friday before the last bank holiday got it back on the 2nd june
11 days in total but that included a BH and 2 weekends0 -
DD's renewal last month was sent late Tuesday afternoon, new passport arrived Saturday.
However, I have no idea whether there is additional bureaucracy involved with replacing a lost passport vs a straightforward renewal.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

You're not going to like his but I recently read a thread on Tripadvisor from someone who applied for a replacement passport (lost) on 1st May and was still waiting on 3rd June.
I think they do additional checks for lost/stolen passports.
You can't use the premium service but you can use the fast track service - you will need an appointment.
Is it possible to change your travel dates?
Have you been in touch with the people living in your old house to see if they've found it?0 -
Photos dont need to be signed unless you cannot be recognised in comparison to the old photo
Lost passports do get more checks than normal replacements, even on the express 1 week service they warn a lost passport may not be completed in the timescales.
You can always call them and see what appointments they have. I was lucky when I did mine and got an appointment the next day but have heard others having to wait a week or two for an appointment. https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently0 -
