Does anyone know how to change the rear brake pads and discs on a 2011 Vauxhall Meriva B ? ie the one with electronic handbrake.
I have heard that the electronic handbrake makes this a garage only replacement due to needing special tools to make sure the handrake mechanisms is not damaged. I can find no info online on how to do this DIY.
I am a competent amatuer car mechanic restoring and maintaining my own classic cars for years but I have only had my own modern car to looks after since taking early retirement. I had company cars before that so garage maintained. I don't really want to buy any expensive special tools to do this job but if there is a way of doing it I would like to save myself the money of paying a garage. I have done the front brakes with no problem.

I'm pretty competent with brakes and have done many on different cars. I wouldn't touch cars with electronic brakes myself though. I've got a mechanic friend who says you always need the diagnostic machine to back the calipers right off and keep them there whilst you change the discs and pads. He's heard of people losing fingers when they're doing it without the proper equipment. Some cars you maybe ok with but I wouldn't take the risk personally.0

You need a diagnostic machine with EPB capabilities, put it in to service mode then wind the calipers back as normal.
No other way I'm afraid0 -
Thanks for the info. Not much I can do then. I will just have to get them done at a garage.0
