student barclay card rejected

Options
My student barclay card application got rejected.

I'm not that bothered that I'm not going to have one, cause I only wanted it for emergencies, but I'm confused as to why they wont give me one.

I earn just over £5k a year before tax, I'm getting my student loan, I'm lucky enough to have my parents offer to give me £100-200 a month while at uni so I'm a bit confused.

I've only ever had two financial blips, in February when I was £3 overdrawn (I didn't have an overdraft but it got sorted the next day) and that was when I was between work and two months ago with a bounced direct debit (again, sorted the next day).

Anyone else been rejected for a credit card?

Have you checked your credit report with Experian / Equifax? If not, definitely have a look as there could be something on there that shouldn't be. The bounced direct debit & unauthorised O/D probably won't help, but if it is on the report, you could call your bank and ask them nicely to remove those as they were sorted so quickly, they may oblige. :)

Also, are you on the electoral roll for the address you are giving them? Most CC applications are turned down outright if you are not registered on the electoral roll.

I tried looking at my credit report, but I don't have any of the cards they accept. I'm going to have another look when I get my connect card later in the week.

How do I check if I'm on the electoral roll?

Make sure you only get the statutory £2 version and dont sign on for the expensive ones.
And you can send off a cheque if you like.

You can contact the local council and find out whether you are the electoral roll.. although you should be receiving polling cards so you can vote if you are so registered.

Well there hasn't been an election since I've turned 18, but I got a letter about it before my birthday.

I'll ring up the council and find out.

There must of been local council elections since then? There were some in May unless you're literally just 18.

I turned 18 the beginning of December.

There haven't been any elections at all.

Weren't the council elections for out of London?

Best way to find out if you're on the register is ask your mum/dad, as it's their responsibility to add you. My parents added me and when I was called to vote I received my polling card through the post.

I, too, have applied for the card, and will let you know if I have been accepted. If it's emergencies you want a card for, can I suggest a card that rebuilds your credit score, as they're for students too. If you have an overdraft, look into a Direct Debit card for emergencies.

Yeh thanks, I'll probably just apply for a capital one card, they're bound to give me one haha. I have my visa debit but atm my overdraft is only £200 and I don't plan on extending it if I don't have to, I just keep getting paranoid about being at uni and someone in my family dies or falls really ill and I have to get to them and it's last minute and a train will end up costing me about £180 or get home quickly and they're replacing the tracks and that NE is full and I have to get a cab. I'm SO paranoid, but things like that do happen I guess.

I should get a young persons railcard while I think about that!

You're not paranoid, you're planning for any event that may occur. That's a good idea. :T
