Options
Does anyone know if its possible to find out who called or at least from what part of the country the call was from when you get a call and it comes up as unknown caller on the iphone 5?

Only if you work for GCHQ can you find out.
Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.

If the OP had worked for GCHQ s/he wouldn't have asked the question!

There is no way you can do this unless you work for :
the mobile network that the call was received on (and are prepared to compromise your job),
the police (with an appropriate warrant) or
    (as said) GCHQ.

    Answer it and ask them?

Too easy to fake numbers oe use international numbers very cheaply these days.

It is in all probability a cold call, so either :-

    *ignore the call
    *cut it off
*look in "calls log" >options>block call

If it is a friend that prefixes their calls with 141, then it is their loss. They will soon get to realise you are not responding and drop the 141

Oh, I don't know. Could have been a cleaner. :D

To keep on thread. Some firms can be abroad but have a UK number that redirects the caller, so possibly net even in the UK.

No there is no way to do this.
If it becomes a problem then contact your operator who WILL know who the caller is and will contact them to tell them to stop.
However they WILL NOT tell you who the caller is ..

At the end of the day, it is someone who doesn't want to identify themselves before you answer the call .
That in its-self is enough to tell you that you don't want to speak to them IMHO ;)

Not necessarily - our friends in the next village are X Directory No Calls (as are we) so when they call us (or vice versa) the phone shows "Unknown, Number Withheld" even though they are in the address book on our phone!

Same happens if you are behind a switchboard.
