T-Mobile admit default was mistake.

Recently I discovered that T-Mobile placed a default on my credit file. Obviously, I complained and they have accepted that it was mistakenly put on my file.

I paid the default last year. It was for £27 and I thought it would be removed off my credit file. But it has still affected it. Does this affect anything? Could I request a refund for this value? Or is it just lost now.

Meanwhile, t-Mobile have "passed" the debt onto Lowell. T-Mobile have requested the debt be passed back to them so they can remove it - but T-Mobile tell me they're being ignored by Lowell?

I am going to get T-Mobile to send me a very detailed letter pointing out the whole debt and subsequent default were a mistake. I will then write to Lowell demanding they adjust my file accordingly.

But does anyone have any tips or advise?

This is all new to me :(.

Thanks.

Write to them and tell them by publishing false information about you on a publicly searchable database they have libelled you.
Demand they rectify the situation within 7 days or you will seek damages.

    Thanks Mark.

Just to be sure, I should write to Lowell and not T-Mobile?

Also, sorry if this is a silly question, but what do you mean by 'damages'? Take them to court? I'm not very sure how to word this letter ...

If you feel the information has been recorded incorrectly on your Experian Credit Report by your lender (T-Mobile) relating to the defaulted account then please let us know , if your Credit Report is provided by a different CRA (Credit Reference Agency) you will need to contact them directly to query this.

You have no contract with Lowell even if rights have been assigned to them by T Mobile. The fact Lowell are ignoring T Mobile is really not your problem! It is T Mobile who placed the marker and T Mobile you should be pursuing. And for clarity, a credit reference agency record is NOT a publicly searchable database - it is closed access. You can only claim damages if you have lost out in some way - I would concentrate in getting the default removed and address the issue of compensation afterwards.
  • Hi all,

Just thought I'd let you guys know that after chasing Lowell a bit, they removed the defaults entirely.

    Yippee!!
