in Credit cards
Just got my nice Virgin Mastercard and thought I would share a few things which might help anyone thinking of applying for one...
The card itself is NOT embossed, it is flat with the words 'For Electronic Use Only', a bit like Visa Electron, not sure why this is unless cards dont need to be imprinted now for any reason.
The card CAN be used for Car Hire and Booking Hotel rooms (Its in the T&C), BUT you do need to have a available balance greater than the actual cost of the Car Hire etc.
The card CANNOT be used a Pay at the Pump (Not sure why).
Top ups using a Debit card online FREE but takes 2 days to credit, at Post Office FREE but takes 1 day to credit and by Bank Transfer FREE but up to 4 days to credit, Top ups by Credit Card online is 2.5% Min £2 fee, and at Paypoint (Immediate) but 2.75%.
No monthly or Annual Fee but 2.95% for Purchases and 2.95% at a ATM, but card lasts 2 years and is replaced FREE at the end of the 2 years IF you have used it in the last 8 weeks before it runs out.
In summary its swings and roundabouts, taking £50 out of a ATM would cost £1.48, on Cashplus it would be £2 min, but if you used it a lot the £4.95 Monthly fee on cashplus would work out cheaper, but then you can do Car Hire on this one, so I guess its up to your personal situation and preference.
