Car Practical Driving Test - use own car?
Hello.
I recently purchased a new VW UP!, great little car.
I am also due to take my test this month, and was wondering if I can use my own car?
I have read the criteria and everything is okay, but I am not sure about the head restraint, so was wondering if anyone knows, or has any suggestions?
The criteria states "have a proper passenger head restraint (not a slip-on type)".
The VW UP! is definitely not a slip on type - but will it be allowed?
I have my doubts, but would be great it is as I am so used to driving it
Thanks in advance

That's not a problem for the head restraint criteria - they mean something that just slips over the back of a low-back seat.
I presume you've been having lessons with a well-reputed local ADI? They'll make sure you're ready for the test, rather than just ready to drive. They'll also acquaint you with all the wrinkles and tips for the local routes and the foibles of the examiners.0 -
My lady-friend took her test in my Up and the examiner had no issue with the headrest so you should be just fine.
Just remember to supply a secondary rearview mirror for the examiner to use.0 -
Use the car that you feel most comfortable and confident driving - that way you should be more relaxed before / during the test.0

I used my own car to do my test, nothing was mentioned about the head restraint prior to the test, but mine were factory standard anyway.
The only requirement was that I had insurance to drive the car as a provisional licence holder and there was a second adjustable mirror for the examiner. (and the car was road legal - taxed/mot etc)
I definitely felt more relaxed in my own car than my instructor's, as my dad took me out regularly for additional lessons in my own car. But I did have sufficient lessons with an instructor beforehand who had taken me around a number of the test routes so I could be familiar with the area.Mortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190
