Hey - Yesterday i recived a letter from our esate agent tellings us we had two months to leave bascially, even though they havnt stated why i'm pretty sure its due to late payment on rent 4 months in a row. which as we all no is not good on our behalf. but me and my flat mate have joint account and my money has been on on time every months, the problem was his hasn't. after realising i have decide this could be for the best as i need to realible to live and if he is not paying it should happen so leave in 2 months at the moment looks to be a positive move
my new problem is im not too good at finding places to rent. not knowing where or how to look.
just wondering if any one had any genral advise for me which could help.
Thanks for time.

If your flatmate is the liability (which it seems he is) then you'd be best looking for another place for sure.
Are you looking for a houseshare or to rent on your own? You could try Gumtree (online advertising site), or local newspapers (the private lettings section, not the estate agent pages), or google your hometown plus the words "room to let" - many towns or areas have accommodation noticeboards where people advertise rooms for rent.
Wherever you go next, you may be asked for a reference from the previous landlord. You should therefore speak to the landlord (or letting agency) to explain that the late rent was the fault of your flatmate, not your own, and check that they will give you a good reference rather than lumping you in with your flatmate.
And a word of advice for next time - don't get a joint account with whoever you live with (as this links your name to whoever you share the account with on your credit file - so if they have a bad credit report, it may impact on you) but make your own payments from your bank account directly.0 -
Local newspapers-check everyday and you soon see what kind of prices you might be paying.
Also, this is a strange suggestion , but walk around your local hospital! I work in one and i see notices for rooms/houses to let everywhere.
Check out supermarkets too-they often have noticeboards.
Good Luck.
PS Rightmove? they have properties for rent. Check out their website.Respond to every call that excites your spirit.0 -
Hi,
That was a nice piece of advice from lavendyr so I've not got much to add to that!
Can I just ask what sort of info you want regarding the eviction notice?
I would personally phone the estate agent and ask why you are being evicted, although they do not have to provide you with the info they may do so and it could be something simple like the landlords selling up etc.
I would also apologise and explain to the landlord the trouble surrounding late payments and the fact that it isn't your fault as such (be good if you could prove it in bank statements etc.) although you have to remember that you and whoever you live with are both equally responsible for ensuring that the rent is paid on time (the downfall of sharing!). He may be resonable when it comes to providing a reference.
Rightmove is a brill site, they list on behalf of other estate agents so you'll find more houses to let with less surfing
