Transferable NCB - for Sibling not Spouse

I have 2 car insurance policies and my brother (40 year old) is a named driver on both. He now wants to get insurance in his own name and insurance companies appear not to recognise his 20 year driving history. For the past 5 years he has not had insurance in his name but has been a named driver on my 2 policies one of which he was made the Main Driver a year ago.

I don't mind transferring my 9 year NCB on one my second car to him. He has been named on that policy with various companies for the last 5 years. I know this is possible with spouses but how about siblings?

Anyone able to specify positive experience with Insurance companies / brokers / schemes?

Its rarely possible with spouses outside of a death or where one can no longer drive

Not aware of any insurer that routinely allows anyone to transfer NCD outside of the above and so your only hope is to get a sympathetic call centre agent or a remote chance of them allowing you to switch ND and PH on an existing policy and "forget" to deal with the NCD issue so when the renewal comes through it has it against the new PHs name.

Most insurers will be giving him an introductory discount as standard assuming he has a clean record and 0 NCD

"Drivers named on your insurance can earn their own discount for use on a Privilege policy for every year they remain claim-free on your policy."

Thats not transferring the PHs to the ND that is the ND earning their own version of NCD. You dont get any credit for prior years ND driving with other insurers and the NDNCD is only usable on another Privilege policy and not anyone else.

Their letters are even very clear after you've bought a policy and renewed that you have, say, 3 years NDNCD and 1 years NCD so that other insurers only recognise the 1 year and not the 3 years credit for their ND time. Was a long time since I've seen any rating tables from the DLG insurers but back then the NDNCD was a lower discount than "true" NCD too.

I've done it twice without any issues. My wife was a driving instructor and I took ownership of her car when she bought a new one. As it had dual controls I couldn't insure it in my name as I am not a qualified ADI.

The company happily transferred my NCD to my wife so that she got full entitlement and I was also named as the main driver.

6 years later when I again bought a car without dual controls they (a different insurer) happily transferred the NCD back to me.
