PCi-e card for std motherboard (asus h81) running open elec
I have a base unit here that I run a stand alone openelec setup
the inbuilt network card has failed , tried about 3 usb network dongles , but copying files over is abysmal , currently moving 350g and it at 20 hrs @ 5.2MB/s , it ran substantially faster with a wired connection
loads of basic pci cards but non of those short things!
either a new m/board , or a trip up the road to CPC
anyone know which chipset works on openelec?

I've never came across a network card that's not been recognised by Linux (OpenElec). Only issues has been with WiFi cards..
Pick up ANY PCIe (or PCI if the motherboard is old) network card and you'll be fine...
I've always found USB dongles to be slow at the best of times.Laters

I bought this card two years ago and use it with Ubuntu 14.04

This seems to be the same at CPC

The driver should be in the kernel, unless you compiled your own kernel and only enabled the network card you use at the moment. Every generic kernel should have all network drivers compiled in.
I'm not familiar with Openelec, but you might need to reconfigure your network settings since the new card will not be eth0, p1p1 ,em0, ... or whatever naming is used.0 -
thanks both , the programme is self load , with no access to compiling , its using a R/control
will check out CPC0 -
Freddy, what exact model of Asus h81 board is it and what version of openelec ? This may just be a simple s/w issue to solve.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

cheers , its a h81m-a , BUT
I dragged my h/drive from my computer which is the h81m-c (same but without hdmi and internal usb 3 plugs) and its dead
boot up , connection for about 5-10 secs (internet) then dead, its an recon board from a place on ebay , and only came with 3 mths warranty
I have tried flashing older bios , then newer incase this was causing probs
the thing is built into a home theatre case , sat under TV , rarely used as I have a dedicated intel nook on openelec , but its handy to dump a lot of files on when needed.
board cost me £15 , so a £10 card is acceptable , its just that CPC is awkward for returns0 -
quick update , that job was put on hold whilst I did other jobs , collected a card from "scan" this morning , the one suggested £6.84 inc vat
I went in person , as I had a lot of other goodies to pick up
(broadwell nuc etc)
many thanks for advice
