Former address pickle

Hello,

When applying for a credit card online, it asks for my current address. As I have lived at this address for less than 2 years it asks me for my former address. When I enter the postcode for my former address, the actual address does not show because a new block of flats has been built. I lived at 69 ......... Road, the address options now show- Flat 1, 69 ........ Road, Flat 2, 69 ........ Road, etc. As none of these are technically my former address what can I do? If I choose any of these flats it will not match the address on my credit record? I have tried changing the address manually but it will not proceed, I have tried clicking the option 'my address is none of these' and it still will not proceed?

I applied for a credit card with Barclays around 2 weeks ago and it was rejected, I wasnt sure why because I have good credit record..... After some thought I came to the conclusion that this application through Barclays may have been rejected because of this reason? After the cashier at Barclays asked me for my former post code during the application would a list of addresses pop up for selection? Did she select any of the flats in order to get the application through?

I went back to Barclays today to express my concern, a cashier told me that when a credit card application is made through them, they would just 'use' the former addresses listed on my account to process the application..... I dont believe her, how exactly do they 'use' the address listed on my address record with them. I assume they will use a piece of software almost exactly the same as the ones anybody can use online where you enter a postcode and a list of addresses will pop up, I could be wrong?

Sorry for the long post, any advise would be fantastic. Sean.

Hi MrBusiness and welcome to the forum.

I don't immediately have a sure-fire answer to this one, but I do know that address-related problems can often undermine otherwise routine credit applications and this is worth you investigating further before making any further attempts to obtain credit.

I would contact one of the credit reference agencies such as Experian to discuss this and to establish how it (the old address) should be recorded going forward. I would also enquire about adding a "Notice of Correction" to your credit file if you believe that the rejection was mainly or entirely down to this issue.
