Looks like I lost £10 and there's nothing I can do about it. I'm so dozy, I don't even remember going into Waitrose on the 29th May, but eventually I found the receipt which said I did. Out of a bill that was £15-something, £10 was cashback.
Thing is, I don't remember asking for cashback or receiving any cash, and I sure can't find the £10 now. But how do I prove that to Waitrose? I can't, so I'm gonna have to write it off. Personally I wish supermarkets didn't offer cashback anyway. I usually say no when they ask, but maybe this time I didn't and the cashier 'forgot' to give me the money - I have absolutely no way of knowing what happened, because my memory is so bad.
Anyway, keep a sharper eye out at checkouts and check the bill. I'm sure a lot of people do this as a matter of course, but I didn't. I will from now on.

If you cannot remember even going into Waitrose , but you clearly did - how do you know you didnt ask for and receive £10 cashback while you where there ?0

I'd sue them here as this is a liberty take and simply not on.0

I would take my receipt back into Waitrose and ask them to check if there was a £10 over on the till number on your receipt.
You never know maybe you didn't get handed it and on that the till would be over by £10, there is no harm in trying.
The other thing that could be happening is the person on the till may be adding the odd £10 onto a few people's shopping and pocketing it, I am not saying that has happened but I would go in and mention that you have £10 cash back on your receipt but can't remember getting it. You won't be the only person to forget a few things so no harm done either way.0 -

I remembered it when I found my receipt >_>.
I went in a few days later on the 1st June and spent another £10. (My local store is literally a 2-minute walk from where I live and you can get some good reductions.) I remember that visit fairly well, but could not recollect the visit before it for some reason.
I literally never ask for cashback. And if I'm offered it, I always say no. But maybe this one time in an absent-minded haze I said yes =/ I do find it suspicious that I can't find a tenner in the usual places I keep cash though. And I am confident I haven't broken into a £10 note since then.clarry_d wrote:I would take my receipt back into Waitrose and ask them to check if there was a £10 over on the till number on your receipt.

I do appreciate the suggestion, but can't help feeling a bit embarrassed over what happened. Think I'll chalk this down to my mistake, but make sure to scan every receipt I get before leaving the supermarket in future. Not just Waitrose, but everywhere.0 -

You paid £15 for £5 worth of goods. Was there nothing odd about that at the time?0

My memory's bad too. I can't remember what I wanted to say to this thread.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”
