Will I get my money back? (debit card chargeback vs PayPal)

I bought a Buy-It-Now auction for some cryptocurrency on eBay and paid with PayPal. The seller was new, had low feedback but had sold 3 or 4 of the item already, the rate was reasonable but nothing too good to be true.
It quickly became obvious to me that it was a scam when the seller quickly broke his word, stalled and offered me more of the cryptocurrency if I waited 4 days.
I called eBay, explained I was scammed - "Sorry digital currencies aren't covered by our guarantee, call PayPal"
I called PayPal, explained the situation - "Sorry digital currencies aren't covered by our guarantee but don't worry just call your bank and cancel the payment (direct debit) as it's still pending."
Called my bank, cancelled the payment and thought that was the end of it.
Unfortunately not, a few days later PayPal charged my backup payment option, my debit card.
I phoned PayPal again today and they're telling me I shouldn't have cancelled the direct debit and that was bad advice. My only option now is chargeback.
My bank says I have to wait 15 days before doing a chargeback claim for "item not received" as I made the payment and because I cancelled the direct debit I can't do an indemnity claim.
Am I likely to win the chargeback? Because it's against PayPal rather than directly to a retailer. This scammer will be long gone with my money in 15 days.
Do I have any other options? eBay have removed/deleted this seller now as he obviously scammed a few people.
FYI it's not a lot of money, £50, but I'd still like it back.
