I am struggling to find out why my laptop is taking so long to start. I have gone through startup on CCleaner, ad disabled what I am confident I don't need every time, but it is still dire, as it is an Asus N55 with i7 processor, any ideas?

A couple of things for starters :-
1. run msconfig / General / Startup Selection
I assume "Normal" is selected. Try "Diagnostic" (verifies basic windows is ok)
2. (back to normal) in CCleaner (tools, startup); how many entries are listed as ENABLED=YES for the Windows column. List them (or add a screenshot)
(this info also available under msconfig)If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
When you say long ... How long ??
Also what laptop is it ?
Spec ?
What operating system ?
My goto answer would be malware on the system
Download and run malwarebytes from here .. https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/
Download the free version and when it is installing UNTICK the option for a free trial of PRO ..
Let us know how you get on.

What are the thoughts on Windows 10 btw?
Is the free upgrade real? Is it worth updating without a touch screen?

Open the file from Malwarebytes (usually in notepad) then CTRL(key)+C together then paste CTRL(key)+v on here .... its not a screen shot though for that you need to use Photobucket/pastebin et al. But copy and paste are fine ...
Windows 10 isn't available yet, yes it is worth trying if you have real need but let's sort out the current problems first, there is no need to jump from 7 to 10 (you will have another 13 months from now to get it free)0
