Hello all,
I'm thinking of getting a new tv, but not sure whether it is worth investing in a 4k one, 3D or just a plain old HD one.
I plan on using it for a number of years (current one is 7 years and going strong), so want it relatively future proof.
I am looking at this one: http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/panasonic/viera-tx40ax630b/pana-tx40ax630b
which is at the top end of my budget.
The question is; is 4k and 3D all hype and is it worth it? I know that's two questions really!
Thanks!

Get 4K, it will do till 8K shows up in the high street in a couple of years time....
The TV you linked to is active 3D so the glasses are relatively expensive and you don't get any so they will cost extra...(£30 - £50 each!). So if you are not a huge 3D fan then look for a 4K without 3D.
I love my 3D TV (and hoping to upgrade to a 4K3D sometime after winning the lottery...) but I know a lot of people don't like 3D in general.Laters

4k Ultra HD is not worth it in current form...
Ultra HD will - in v2 have wider colour gamut and dynamic range but the current display technology isn't up to it yet... and standards are still being discussed agreed and set...
With a 40 inch screen you'll need to sit _very_ close to see the extra pixels of full HD... (wider gamut and dynamic range are viewable from a distance and can give a wow factor).
Only Netfilix type delivery of programme material for a few years yet... Broadcasting it will be a very long way off.0 -
