Went on Hmrc live chat and they said there are problems with 2015/2016 marriage allowance which they are currently trying to sort!0 -
Hi it was just ask if anyone has any advice on this,I work part time and my husband unemployed due to having a transplant. I applied for marriage allowance under my husband and they said he would be entitled to around £200, well on my next wage after doing so I had quite a hefty amount of tax came off. Also my tax code now changed due to this and not a penny better off. Does this mean when my husband gains employment then he will be taxed less or should we receive a cheque or something? Not sure what to do.:(0

Your post makes no sense.
The person who applied for marriage allowance can either be no better off by applying or possibly owe a bit of tax. Their spouse is the one who receives the benefit of the marriage allowance i.e. a higher tax code meaning less tax paid on wages/pension or a refund from HMRC.
What matters with marriage allowance is how much your income is. If the application was in hubbies name he cannot get a £200 refund as he is giving some of tax allowances to you. He could pay more as a result and you would pay less (assuming you do actually pay tax)
Under whose name was the application made?
Which tax year(s) was the application for?
How much do you think each of you have earned in this tax year to 05 April 2017?
What is your new tax code?0 -
We applied for MA which we got and we ticked to backdate it because we were unsure whether my wife had been paid more than £11,000 during the maternity tax year.
I got a tax refund of last years MA plus this year partial tax. WooHoo! Great I thought & spent it.
Then 2 months later my wife was asked for it back! plus slightly more and because she was no longer working it was to sent back by cheque, meaning a stamp was required...
So just be careful, if you are unsure.0 -
I applied for this about 6 months ago, got it for 16/17 tax year and not had a payslip yet for this tax year, paid at end of the month, but not had a cheque for previous years.
How do I check this out?0 -

The allowance should have been automatically backdated to the 2015/16 tax year and a refund issued for that year. If you qualified in that year and the refund has not been received then contact HMRC.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I am in the same boat as you, tax code changed for 16/17 but still waiting for cheque for 15/16.0 -
I was told by HRMC customer service that if you don't have a British passport then you can't apply for this. Has anyone been successful without one?0
