hi Dazed and confused.
Is the calling HMRC necessary ? ive submitted the wifes return, and was hoping that that would have triggered the transfer, and updated mine. (it hasnt yet been about 3 working days) I was reluctant to submit mine, as the tax amount shown is not correct online, and would involve payment on account0 -
You've lost me.
If you haven't submitted your return what is there for HMRC to change?0 -

sorry... ive submitted the wifes SA return but not mine... as she has no tax to pay anyway. I was hoping that by submitting the wifes, this would trigger HMRC systems to show the transferred allowance on my return (while doing the return). Hasnt happened yet.. on SA302
Seems that a few other folk are in the same boat in the other post I updated. Under the impression that we should see (at some point) see the marriage allowance transfer.
Id rather the figures shown on my SA were correct before I submit.
Thanks.0 -
I doubt it will ever happen whilst you haven't filed the return.
I don't understand why you don't want to file the return and allow HMRC to include the Marriage Allowance tax credit?
You will then it see it on your SA302 calculation.0 -
i would rather see the credit first.. but as you say it may not happen until i send the return..
thanks for reply..0 -
Hi I do not work so I gave my spare TA to my husband, all went well applying, & a cheque appeared in the post, nearly £800. We have separate bank accounts, & are at the beginning of the end of our marriage afer 29 years. As all breaks go, not as friendly as I would like. My soon to be estranged husband, told me he's keeping the whole amount, as he worked hard for HIS money. I had assumed we would share this cheque, after all we wouldn't have got this amount if it wasn't for my TA I was giving to him! He told me to return it or tear it up! Which I'm reluctant to do, after all 800 quid not to be scoffed at or £400 each. Selfish pig is cutting off his nose to spite me, proofing his money is his not mine! The 4 month old cheque still sits in a safe place. I cannot pay into my bank as its payable to him only. TAXOFFICE told me as the money was earned by him, & paid by his boss. there's nothing I can do to get my hands on it, even though were married & part of my TA was involved. Apart from cancelling my donated TA. Gonna have to tear cheque up. Hope same situation doesn't occur from proceeds of house sale in foreseeable future.!! Does any one else agree with me, than cheque should be shared?0

As the person applying then you could only ever pay the same amount of tax or pay more. You could never be due a refund by applying.
As the receiver of Marriage Allowance it is your husband who would be due the tax reduction so it is correct the cheque is made out to him, it is his tax which is being refunded.
I don't really know how you can resolve this to both parties satisfaction but HMRC are never going to send you half (or any) of the tax overpaid by your husband.0 -
Hi,
My husband and I submitted a request online for retrospective marriage tax allowance. The website didn't give us the option to apply for the 2015/2016 tax year, and when we phoned to question this we were advised they haven't updated the information but you can only claim for the 2016 period onward.
Is anyone else experienced this? Have the rules changed?
Thanks.0 -

I really hope you didn't both do it. Except in million to one circumstances it should just be one of you applying.we were advised they haven't updated the information but you can only claim for the 2016 period onward.

There is no "2016" with income tax, it is either 2015:16 or 2016:17. And Marriage Allowance existed for both of those years and is still in date for applications.
Before applying though are you certain that whoever is applying is both eligible and that, as a couple, you will benefit??0 -
For those that followed my queries on here - called HMRC - they said to submit as is, and figure would be sorted out (re MTA).
did that, and few days later the amount I have to pay is shown correctly. The SA302 still isnt. so Submit the SA form (wont include the MTA), and it should get fied in 72 hrs by HMRC.0
