You do do get a lot of mmmm....how should I put it.....some people that are very easy to express their strong views on this forum. Very different to the parking tickets forum. Oh well, c'est la vie !
I, from experience, just ignore most things that are posted on this forum and just do my own thing. Anyone would think that I had a different username but hey, who knows ?0 -

You know what lad, but I'm from the Wirral and I've lived in Liverpool, Canterbury and also Paris too. I actually like people from Liverpool because they tend to be hard working people. If they go to the gym then they do overtime at work to pay for it. If they are going to screw over someone (ie a gym) then they just DO IT! They don't make a post on a public forum trying to justify an action they recognise as morally unjust. They either pay up or jib them off, there is no grey area like that with the OP. I love that to be honest, and I'd respect OP more if they were to just go that route as opposed to trying to convince some internet strangers to support them in their somewhat blatant attempt to worm out of a contractual obligation.
Have a look around in Liverpool, lad, because they are nice people (trust me!!!). Strong views are commonplace!!0 -
@unholyangelAs for the discount, can you clarify a bit. Do you mean you signed up to a (for example) £50 a month contract and they later refused to give it saying it was £70 a month?
I have a promotional code that can be used to get discounted services. I do not think it is meant to apply to all the services it does. If I use it, can the supplier effectively remove that service.
So for example, using a gym membership at it's appropriate to this thread. Gym offers a pay up from 6 months contract. Usually £250, promotional code gets you it for £50. Once purchased, if they realise their mistake can they then revoke your membership, refuse you entry, or such like?0 -
Once a contract has been agreed, theres only very limited reasons it can be made void without either party incurring liability.
One of those is for mistakes. There are different types of mistakes though and some (if its something minor) will not void the contract. A unilateral mistake will. A unilateral mistake is where one party makes a mistake and the other party was aware (or should have reasonably been aware) that it was a mistake. This can happen for example when a £600 is accidentally listed for £60 instead.
If you used it on a service that you knew the code shouldnt work with, then that would likely be a unilateral mistake. If however you were unaware of the error and the error wasnt reasonably obvious, then the contract would likely remain binding. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Thanks unholyangel, that's all seems to make sense and seems reasonable enough to me. My googling didn't provide much (perhaps using the wrong search terms) with regard to services, plenty on purchases though.0
