Declined by Egg...

I applied for an Egg card online and got declined and I was hoping that someone would have some good ideas as to how I might appeal the decision.

They said I 'didn't match their criteria'.

I might as well appeal as the credit check will have already been done.

I have been at my current address for 18 months now and I am on the electoral role. I haven't made any late payments in the last 8/9 months at least and I don't have any maxed out cards. I pay more than the minimum on each of my cards.

I only have one wage slip to hand and one ISA statement that I could send them. What else can I do?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

You can get a copy of your credit reports and check for errors.

Thanks for the reply, the last time I got my Equifax report was in Jan this year and I also took the 30 day free trial from Experian. I guess it's time to take another look at them.

First open a deposit account with Egg and put a few £ in every month. This will establish you as an Egg customer. Wait a few months and then apply for one their credit card. This method worked for me!! (after having been rejected 3 times ).

    Good Luck.

I remember applying to egg for their green card and got declined about twice. I rang them up on the second ocasion telling them that i didnt feel the decision was right. Apparently, there was some data in their main database which needed to be reset and the guy i spoke to emailed the department concerened. After a week i re-applied and i was accepted. It was the data that was showing a previous application was sitting there and rejecting me each time. HTH

Definitely get your credit history from Experian, when we first applied for our Egg card many moons ago we were rejected.

Turned out Experian had address-linked my husband's sister onto his credit file via their parent's address and she had been bankrupt which was the problem. Got it sorted and never had a problem since (touch wood!)

I just pop in now and then.... :)

Ok, I think I will open a deposit account with Egg and start saving with them first. Thanks for that idea. How much would I need to deposit every month do you think. Could I get away with £25 or would I need to put in at least £50 per month?

Should I not bother appealing this rejection then, or should I appeal and if unsuccessful try again in 6 months or so?

ti1980: Did EGG say you 'didn't match their criteria' online or did you ask them over the phone? A few months ago, I got declined from Halifax and at the time, I thought I had a good credit record. I had never been in arrears, had been making all of my monthly payments and was on the electoral roll. When I phoned up, they asked if I was 'financially linked' to an address that had been my ex-boyfriend's, whom I had separated from two years ago! I explained that I had no financial link with that address and Halifax then accepted my application.

I immediately checked with Equifax and Credit Call and got my credit reports on line. Nothing came up. However, I then sent off for my Experian report and when it came back, I discovered that they had financially linked me to my ex and that he had applied for a mortgage and another product shortly before I made my Halifax application!! Both searches were on my report!!

I immediately contacted Experian and was 'financially disassociated' with my ex. Experian then informed the other two credit scoring agencies, so there was no need to do it more than once.

Since then, I've had no problems applying for cards and am a happy credit-card tart once again!

My advice would be, that even if you think you aren't linked to anyone, don't be so sure. I would check with all three credit scoring agenices as they each hold different information. If you haven't aready done so, call EGG and query why you were declined. What exactly is their criteria?

Egg said I 'didn't match their criteria' online. I will probably give them a buzz and see what they say.

They probably think I have too much credit available to me already.

    Thanks,

I'm in the same position as you CTT, as I have a new Green card with a 0% balance on it and I'd like a blue card to use as a "mule" and purchase card (for the cashback etc)

Personally I'm going to wait 3 months before applying, I don't think it's a good idea to apply for it too soon as they could think you're desperate for credit.
