You're lucky, my wife said she wouldn't agree to be sold. :D

It depends whether you really mean fired, as in dismissed for some serious disciplinary matter, or employment terminated by agreement or redundancy with a financial settlement.

A year if wife and I both lost our jobs today, very slightly longer if we sold all of our consumer goods.

That said, much of our liquid assets are held in a S&S ISA, in the event of a recession leading to a job loss, I'd reduce that estimate by at least 25% as the value would fall considerably.
  • No where near enough liquid assets, maybe £4K which would last a couple of months at a squeeze.

That said got a £100K mortgage facility still open, house paid off already so could borrow a bit back if needed to tide us over

I would think we would last for about a year without working.

If only one of us lost our job, we would manage other than longer term spends like house repairs or replacing the car. So realistically we'd have to tighten our belts to last indefinitely on one salary.

If both of us lost our jobs, we could last about 3 years.

When I was single and had just blown all my savings on my first home, I took out income protection insurance ....... possibly something to consider if there isn't a partner to pick up the slack and before you've got a decent savings buffer.... :)
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.
