My Google has been hijacked!

Hi. Some help here would be very much appreciated. The computer in our off site office has managed to get itself into a spot of bother. I can't really contact technical services as our boss is looking for an excuse to get the internet taken off this PC and so I do not want to draw attention to this PC. The basic problem is that somehow when putting in a google enquiry the whatever page then chosen by me is re-directed to a site of no interest (occasinally even adult ones). This PC is only a year old has XP, Norton security and we ourselves have added spybot, ad-aware and crap cleaner.

Any ideas?

Whenever that sort of thing has happened to me I run !!!!Cleaner, Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware. All available for free from Filehippo.

Should add that you should check -> Tools -> Internet Options and check/change the default homepage to Google (or whatever you want).

I'd advise just going through the malware removal guide sticky on this board. You may find (in my experience) it will have to be removed manually by running hijackthis.

  • I will look up that malware removal section. many thanks for that. I have also in the meantime downloaded A2 (as mentioned on another thread) that found 12 medium risk problems. So things are getting better already :j

Run Www.superantispyware.com , the blue download button, first and then if needed follow the malware removal sticky
