The easiest way out?

Hi,

i'm in tears as I write this. I've just had enough. I have split from my partner,i'm sleeping in my parents spare room,i've been off work for 4 months with a broken ankle that won't heal,I owe just under £3,000 on a credit card, most of it debt ran up by my ex. I've never really been a drinker before, but have started, looking for an escape from boredom and problems. I'm 37 years old and feel like I have nothing to live for. Suicidal thoughts are beginning to creep into my mind on a regular basis. At least then all my troubles would be over. Does anyone else else have these thoughts?

Please make an appointment to see your GP asap to start dealing with these. And the Samaritans are around 24/7 to help.

Nothing is worth giving up your life for in this way. You may feel bleak now but things WILL get better.

Sounds like you feel there is no way out of this. But lets take it in baby steps and see what we can do to help you today. You've taken the first step to help yourself by posting on here and give yourself a pat on the back for that becauwse before you know baby steps turn into improvements in the right direction so you've started on the right road.

Firstly who is the £3000 owed to, what is the interest rate and are you managing at least the minimum payment or not??
  • Hello u, good advice so far, very important make an appointment with your GP. You may need to go on meds for a while or sometimes just going and talking to someone helps clear the muggyness. Also I would seriously consider going and talking to someone from CAB see what your options are regarding housing, work and the money.

I know how you feel. I have separated from my husband of 17 years two weeks ago. I am living with my brother at the moment (in the kids toy room) while we try and sell the house. Some mornings of the first week i would wake up and think is this it, is this my life......

But then my friends helped me emotionally, and coming on here and helping me try and organize my money better is helping. I still cry at odd times in the day different things make me cry. But you have made the first step, realising how low you are. Please if there is anything i can do to help just let me now. I am not very good on the money side of things thats why i come on here as i am trying to take control of my money.

    Hope things start to improve

I have to believe as you should there is a light at the end of the tunnel and money should not control our lives.

    Hi Wolfman,
Things will get better, but please call the Samaritans and go to see your GP on Monday - ask for an appointment at the end of surgery, tell the receptionist that "no, it can't wait", and tell your Dr how you feel. You may not want to take medication, but as a short term measure to get you over this patch, it may be necessary. Be guided by what they say, be honest, and don't worry about getting upset in front of the Dr. It's what we pay them for, after all.

Best wishes, and let us know how you get on. When you're ready for the next step, the Forum will be able to suggest ways to help.

  • Hi Wolfman

I really know how you are feeling i was in a similar situation 7 years ago i split from my partner, my mother had just died of cancer, my sister had cancer, and i owed £35,000 (most of which was his but in my name) and the only way i could pay my debt was to eventually sell my home. I had to go to the docs and have anti depressants, i had not opened my mail for about 1 year and had all sort of court orders and bailiffs chasing me, after i sold my house i moved in temporarily with family and then i rented, it was tough but with tremendous help from the CAB who i have to thank, 7 years on i look back and am very pleased with what i have achieved since then, i have now moved on met a new partner, and now living with him, life is so much better than it was then, the anti depressants did help and the CAB certainly got my finances off to a good start.
However low you feel you should try and keep strong, you are not the only person who is feeling like this or has felt like this, things will seem to get better day by day, and in a few months or even years you will look back and be pleased with yourself how you overcome these troubles. i really feel for you as i know how hard it is to be strong and try to pull yourself together.
    Take Care of yourself.

    Hi Wolfman,

Please take heed of the advice of the other posters, get some help. You can find another partner, your ankle will heal in time, you can pay back your debts. You won't get another life. Please read this post on another forum regarding suicide (you might need to register, it's free though.):
