Friend house-sitting - is my home insured?

Instead of putting our dog in a kennel, we often ask friends to stay in our house and enjoy a 'free' holiday in Cornwall - we are only away for a week and then a few days across the year. It's a win-win for us, our dog and our friends
No money exchanges hands :T I've never considered it before but do I need to get a special home (contents/ buildings) insurance?

Dunno - but if you run out of friends I'm really nice, clean up after myself and happy to look after your dog;)
(Actually if it were me I would have a read through my house insurance policy docs and contact the provider just to be on the safe side - as obviously you want your insurance to cover the property in your absence whilst someone else is living in your home; albeit temporarily)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Read your insurance policy documents. It's the only way to know.
There will be things excluded while the home is lent to anyone who does not normally live with you whether friends, family or strangers.
Precise details will be in the paperwork.0 -
As long as they arent paying you to stay there then there shouldnt be any problems.
The only query thats going to be realistically raised is if something "goes missing" but there is no sign of break in.0 -
Phone your insurer I'm sure they can advise you or as mentioned check your paperwork.0

I agree...tell them your friend is there, say you've known and trusted them for xx years, and get in writing before you go away that they have noted this info and not applied any "special terms" to your policy.0
