Problems with Shawbrook Bank

I wonder whether anyone can help me or has had a similar problem.
My recently deceased Mother had 2 fixed term accounts with this bank. I am one of two executors of the will and am trying to obtain a statement of the account and interest accrued upto death and tax certificate upto death for the solicitor and accountant. I wrote to them enclosing a death certificate requesting this information but they will not give me any information until they have either a certified copy of the will or a letter of confirmation from the solicitor. I rang them to query this as none of the other institutions I have contacted have requested this but they state that is what they require. I am not asking them to release funds just give me figures so I can get everything ready for probate application.
Are they within their rights to do this and has anyone else had this before either with Shawbrooks or anyone else. Hope someone can help. TIA

The bank are quite entitled to be sure that they don't give confidential information to the wrong person.ashteadgirl wrote: »I wonder whether anyone can help me or has had a similar problem.

Thanks G6JNS.
The reason I am a bit amazed is that 13 other building societies/banks have happily supplied the information. I was just trying to keep costs down and each letter the solicitor has to right will be chargeable.
I was also interested if anyone else has had this problem.0 -
I agree with you but some organisations insist on playing it by the book. Frustrating as it may be I can see their point.ashteadgirl wrote: »Thanks G6JNS.
