Will my debts affect my OH s ability to get a personal loan??

I hope someone can answer my question, here goes...
My OH and I have separate bank accounts and no financial associations except a mortgage together which is up to date.
I however have quite a lot of unsecured debt - £28,000 to be precise which I am not happy about but am paying off as much as I can every month.
OH has a couple of grand on a credit card and a car loan. He wants to get a personal loan to pay some car finance off. Will his bank ( the same bank we have the mortgage with) check my credit file as well as his when he applies for the loan????

Many thanks in anticipation x:D

Yes, if his bank search the a credit reference agency that shows the mortgage and association they will also search your credit file.

If you had payment problems on your debts it could well impact on his ability to get accepted for finance. If you have high debts but no problems with the payment history then it is less likely to make a big difference.

Do they always search the credit file of the other person you are financially linked to do you know? For example if you apply for a credit card ??

    Many thanks x
