Moving to SKY

in Techie Stuff
I've thought about it for a long time, but i've finally taken the plunge and plumped for Sky Broadband from BT.
I am really worried that I will have to pay someone to install it, as I haven't got a clue when it comes to technical stuff, I am also getting conflicting advice, some [people say I can use my existing D-link 604T router (I only managed to secure the network last night !) and others say I MUST use the router they send.
So my question is will it be a nightmare to install?, how do I install? and can I just use my existing set up and never have any signs that i've moved providers?
Thanks for any help .

Sky will provide you with a Netgear wireless router. This has Sky specific firmware which includes your username and password. Therefore you will need to use this router. Once your account is active you should just be able to change your current router for the new one to be up and running. You do not need to use the Sky router as a wireless router; you can use the ethernet connection if required.0

Hi Thanks for your reply, I have about 4 computers running off the network, so I guess I need it to be wireless. So the old router has to go then- oh well fingers crossed.0 -
Setting up the Sky router is a piece of cake. Just plug everything in and off you go. No configuring as the router is pre-loaded with your details.
Sky supplies a set-up CD which shows how to set it up in computer animation. I would be very suprised if you have difficulty setting it up.
Forget your old router. Sell it on ebay0 -
THe Netgear DG834G router they supply is one of the best on the market. It's not some cheap rubbish. I'd be surprised if you didn't find it a lot better than your D-Link.0

i have just got sky+ with the middle offering of broadband and also the free evening and weekend calls. I have had no issues with the sky+ tv (so far) however the broadband and the phone call package have not worked together since i got it.
Sky said i would have broadband by the latest 20th July, I had broadband on the 19th, however when they installed it, it killed my home phone line. Could not make or recieve any calls. phoned sky and they said it was a BT issue. 3 weeks later, BT fixed the problem, but in doising so, killed the broadband. Now after ringing sky, they say it'll be 3 weeks before broadband is restored.
So in a nutshell, i have paid for a 3 package combo, and not recieved all 3 at once after 6 weeks. This is likley to bo 2 and a half months before i will get it sorted. Not happy with Sky at all (or BT for that matter)0 -
You shouldn't be paying for the broadband if you're not receiving it
