Would advise against this, to protect your bank info..

Try paypal, or ask for stamps, ivo low value item?

You only give the info you would find on a cheque for example.

There is nothing wrong with accepting a bank transfer plus you would save on paypal fees.

So it is safe to give sort code and bank account number?

As has been said your bank info is on any cheque you issue. If they are in the Uk they need a sort code and bank account number.

Bank transfer is safe as long as you know it's a cash deposit and leave it until the next working day to clear, it's £3 though!

Paypal is no safer, in fact it is less safe for a £3 item!

also look at PayM (or Barclays flavour Pingit) where you give out even less info but is a bank to bank transfer - being rolled out currently and your bank may support it

absolutely - and you'll get your full £3 :jrather than the £2-odd you'd get after paypal get their hands on it
