Not sure if I'm posting in the right place, so apologies if not.

I'm about to get my first bill from e-on for duel fuel, and was wondering if anyone could tell me how to work this out for myself. In other words the formula.

eg; elect units, x ?? -?? =?? % ?? = ££ and same for gas units = ££, then I will add the standing charge.

Electricity units are simple to deal with as they are in kWh, so you just multiply them by the rate, which is in pence/kWh and add the standing charge.
Gas does require some simple multiplication and division to change the units to kWh. It also depends on whether you have an imperial meter (measuring hundreds of cubic feet) or metric one (measuring cubic meters). However, the formula used to convert the units to kWh should be shown on your bill. The only variable element in that is the Calorific Value, or CV. It is usually around the 39.4 mark and varies only slightly (like by one or two tenths) between bills, so typically only changes the bill by a matter of pence. It is worth checking your meter to be sure that your are being billed for the same type (imperial/metric) as you have. Very occasionally, utility companies have been known to have it wrong.
Of course, any discounts are then applied to the total and VAT (currently 5%) added.

The calculation goes like this:

Electricity

Present Reading - Previous Reading - 'x' kWh

Gas

Present Reading - Previous Reading = 'y' Cu3M (assuming that you have a metric meter)

('Y' * 1.02664 *39.2)/3.6 = gas units in kWhs (or the easy way is to multiply 'y' by 11.2) = 'Z' kWhs

Bill

Electric = 'x' times your unit rate

Gas = 'z" times your unit rate

Add:

The daily standing charges for gas and electricity

Subtract:

Any discounts £30/365 times the no of days between readings)

Total and add 5% VAT.

Edit: I should have added that your Bill will show a credit/debit balance based on the Charges above less all payments made. Future bills will also show a credit/debit balance from the previous bill.

PS: YOUR BILL IS ONLY ACCURATE IF THE PREVIOUS AND PRESENT READINGS ARE ACTUAL AND NOT ESTIMATED

as I have not yet had a bill from this company I do not know what the unit price is/will be. Hence the question, once I have calculated the forumla, how much is each unit on gas and electricity from e-on?

or can i find this online somwhere?

How do you know you are with E.On? Presumably that was via correspondence, which should tell you the tariff and rates.
If you don't have on on-line account, register for one through their website. Once you've done that, you will be able to see your full tariff details.

Strange. If you signed up for an online account you should have received a welcome e-mail with your tariff details etc. If you have an online account, I think that your tariff details are listed on MY Account.

It depends on where you live and the tariff that you are on so unless you know what you signed up to then you'll have to wait until the bill comes in to find out. The same tariff can have a different price depending on your geographic location - strange I know but that's how it is. You could check your on-line account (or set one up).

The main thing is to ensure that the meter readings on your bill are very close to the actual readings on your meter - if they aren't then phone or E-mail them in and ask for a revised bill. Once you let a couple of estimated readings get through you'll end up in a bu@@ers muddle so make sure you keep a record and save your bills, it could save you a heap of problems in the future

If you have on online E.on account, log on to it.

When you have logged in, the tariff you are on is shown clearly in the "Your Plan(s)" on the right hand side of the screen.

Clicking on the plan name will bring up the details of your energy plan

Then click the "Show unit rates and exact discounts" for the all of the costs and discounts for you.

Thanks, there it was all along.

Right so where's the ladders - I also have a meter positioned inside a cupboard built ontop of another cupboard to the ceiling, so ladders, torch, pen and paper are all required. Not forgetting the calculator once I'm firmly back on the ground.

So are you saying that you haven't contacted E.oN. If this is the case, then you will be on a Deemed Contract on E.oN's standard/variable tariff. You cannot just takeover another person's energy account. Did you bother to read the meters when you moved in?
