Claiming PPI with no Paperwork

Hello. I'm sure this question has already been asked in the forums somewhere but although I've searched I can't find anything!
I know that I had a loan several years ago (maybe 10+) with Santander (then Abbey). Unfortunately I don't have any details - including the dates. I do know that I had PPI although I don't know if it was mis-sold.
I tried contacting Santander who were totally unhelpful (well, why would they be anything else?) and told me because it was over 6 years ago they don't hold information. However, if I came back to them with the details of the loan they would look into it for me. I don't have anything at all, not even bank statements from then.
Same goes for my partner who had a loan with PPI with NatWest.
In this circumstance is it best just to hand it over to a Claims company and accept that either nothing will come of it - or if there is anything to be paid that I'll only get 60 - 70% of it or is there something I can do?
I'd be really grateful for any constructive advice.
Thanks!

You could just hand it over to a claims company, but you would still need the to give them the details you don't have. They know less about your financial history than you do. They have no magical powers.
You could risk spending £10 on a DSAR to Santander to see what (if any) data they still have on you.
If they did find anything, then you'd need reason(s) for your complaint and why you believe it was mis-sold.0
