Fax to PC over the internet? How??

Hi,

Can anyone advise - I am in the netherlands at the moment and need to recieve a 70 sheets (140 sides) of faxed literature from the UK (I am a student and need this asap for my dissertation).

I have tried a few local shops with fax services, but so far it seems that over here they are really expensive - like 1 euro a sheet!!

Does anyone know about how you can send faxes to a pc? I have googled and there seem to be lots of services, but I dont really understand how they work - does anyone know which would be reputable, easy to use and cheap, or preferably free? Any advice on how to recieve the faxes cheaply over here would be much appreciated!

I have a broadband connection over here, but no landline. (I do have skype though if that is relevant) Any info gratefully recieved!!

thanks :-)

Another option is to scan them in and send as a pdf via email. 140 pages will proberbly need splitting up in to a few files as 140 pages could create a large file maybe 40 page chunks to keep the files under 10mb that most email servers limit emails to.
  • yeah, I thought about that, but I am getting my mum to send it from the uk - she has access to a fax machine, but not a scanner!
    thanks though :-)

    Hi FC

I have used messagejet.com for a number of years, I use the free service which suits me, you can upgrade but have a look at what they offer.

I get faxes sent to an 0845 number which is a local call rate number, they forward the fax by email to my email account, I also receive voice messages which come by email. Really cant fault them and totally free

Hope it works out for you and nothing to lose.
  • Hi HC,

thanks, that sounds exactly what I need, however, I have just tried to sign up but just get a message saying 'error: no accounts left' - any idea why? Perhaps they have stopped signing up new people to the free service?

    Any suggestions much appreciated!!

    thanks

Try FaxTastic. Same idea as mentioned above, except the fax number is 0871 not 0845.

It's completely free to receive. The user pays 10p a min. Conditions are that you must receive a fax in first 7 days & receive a fax every 90 days. :)

If you' can scrounge a phoneline in NL then, if you've got an old-school dial-up modem in your computer you shold be able to set it up as a fax machine
