Flower delivery didn't arrive: recipients in but courier claim no one answered

Options
I ordered a flower delivery for relatives from Serenata (online, using my credit card) and paid extra for next day delivery before noon. The flowers should have arrived on Friday.

The recipient waited in all day for them but there was no knock and no card was put through the door, however, Serenata say that DPD tried to deliver but the recipients were out/did not answer. They have sent me a photo of the recipient's door.

The flowers were redelivered this morning but obviously have sat on the van/in the depot for 3 days and so are not in very good condition.

Ideally I would like a full refund as the flowers are in poor condition, failing that I would like a refund for the express delivery at least.

Am I entitled to any of this? (I did email Serenata saying the recipient was in all day but they said that as they have the photo, this is proof that delivery was attempted, so it is not their fault and they won't refund me.)

Help please?

What value of flowers are we talking? Could you insist on a delivery of fresh flowers rather than money back?

    Is the door bell working?
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring
  • The doorbell is working.

Don't want a new delivery as the recipient now can't be in to wait for delivery for the next week.

The flowers cost £25 and paid £5 for express delivery.

    Thanks for the suggestions

They should card you. I had similar thing once with a normal delivery, the "Yodel" driver walked up to door, took a photo of it and went back into his van and drove off. It was on CCTV so it does happen.
  • Nope, no card. I guess it is just the recipient's word against the DPD driver's word. Serenata have refunded me 10% of the order as a goodwill gesture...

I wouldn't accept that. If they didn't leave a card then to my mind that's the same as not attempting to deliver.

I have known several instances of these couriers delivering to the wrong house but clearly doesn't seem to be the case here.

Must say I like the idea of them photographing the door to show they were there but agree 100% with everyone else that not leaving a card means they didn't perform their duties appropriately. If they had done that, the homeowners would have seen it and could have called.

I just took delivery of a package from Parcel Force that was delivered to my neighbour as I apparently wasn't in. Despite the box quite clearly saying the package weight was 1.9 kg, the box was completely empty. What sort of numpty can't tell a box is totally empty? It was 3 ft long, for goodness sake!

What's the motivation of the delivery driver getting as far as the front door to take a picture but not actually knocking or ringing the bell?

My guess is they did knock or ring but the occupants didn't hear (easily done over the course of a day unless you sit all day with the TV off and are listening for the door the whole time).

I think some of these guys are on such a tight timeline they can't stand around knocking and ringing and waiting so they knock or ring once and within a few seconds they are off back to the van. I sometimes come to the door because I heard a knock and the delivery driver is already halfway back to the van!

The OP was adamant there was no knock at the door, but your explanation makes sense.

I was wondering what the OP's explanation was of the picture but no knock. It doesn't make sense, so unlikely to be true. So Judy tells me.
