its a long story so sit back i have 2 children and at the time did work full time.
when i first filled in my child tax credit form i earned around £13000 a year. my husband who has retired got his works pension and his state pension which came to around £10000. because he's over 65 we didn't know which box to put his amount in so he phoned them and they told him to put it in the other income box. when we received our first payments we noticed that we were both getting the benefits in our different accounts i tried to phone quite a few times but because of the amount of mistakes that had been made couldn't get through. then someone told me that they had the same problem and managed to get through after a long time and were told to forget it and it would be sorted out the next year. i thought this may also be the advice i would be given so i gave up trying. the following year i received my new application form filled it out as before.when i was sent my new award notice i had been overpaid by £5000 and all payments to us were stopped. we went to our CAB and they told me that the figures added up correctly they asked if this was causeing me hardship that my payments had stopped i said no, so they said if i was to get anymore payments to ring them and tell them to stop. a month later my husband was diagnosed with cancer and we dont expect him to be around much longer, so the ctc people started to pay him again when i phoned i was told that because he was getting attendence allowance at the higher rate they had to pay us a percentage and couldn't stop it. i had to reduce my hours of work to care for him i informed them asap and they ajusted payments and i also was granted wtc .well we have got this years award now and guess what its still around £5500. they have not yet demanded any payment in full but what will happen when my husband dies will they demand a full refund.

Sorry to hear of your problems. Have had horrendous problems myself since April 2004 & still not sorted.
