Garden corner plot question

Hi all,

Hope this is in the right section.

Me and my partner have found a house in our ideal area which we like on the market. The house located in a quiet close and is a back to back end of terraced house (so effectively like a terrace as only 2 walls do not face neighboring houses). As a result of being a back to back house, it does not have a garden - but instead an open plan corner plot. The corner plot itself runs adjacent to the road within the close and the current owner has laid what appears to be 3 foot fencing toward the path which goes up to the house and on the outside has laid conifers which appear to be around 6 foot.

If we did get the house, me and my partner would want to try and make the corner plot as secluded as possible to best emulate a closed off garden. At present, it is not completely secluded as the conifers have visible gaps between them near the floor and there are no/very little trees/shrubs where the 3 foot fencing is. To best summarize, my questions really are:

- Is there any limit to how close you can erect fencing/trees/shrubs to the edge of the corner plot which runs adjacent to the road? The current owner appears to have left around a 1 foot gap when planting the trees which surround majority of the plot.
- Having a dig around online, it looks as though the tallest fence which can be put up is 3 foot. Anything bigger than that would require further permission - is this correct and can it be placed around the entirety of the corner plot?
- Again, looking around online it would appear that in terms of trees/shrubs, there is no limit to how many you can plant and how tall they can be. This would tie in with what the current owner has done as they appear to be about 6 foot. Would this have been done because if it was any higher there it would be permissible for neighbors to file complaints if they wanted?

As I say, our ideal thing to do would be to completely seclude the corner plot garden if possible by keeping the current trees and putting 3 foot fencing in the inside around the perimeter, possibly planting more shrubs/trees if required.

Does anybody have any first hand experience or knowledge when it comes to corner plot gardens and fencing/hedges/trees etc. who may be able to lend some advice? All and any advice appreciated.
