I agree. If I was a trustee of a young person's inheritance, I would be more inclined to release some money early if he/she showed that serious thought had gone into managing a budget.
I guess we'll have to hope Grandma's not of the generation which would wonder why the OP only gets in touch when she needs money ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Am I mad? I thought I was my job to secure housing fir both my kids when in uni.
By that I mean, they found the property but we paid the deposit and month in advance.
This was before student loans, but neither qualified for a grant. We learned too much, but not enough for it not to be a struggle to keep them. They worked on holidays, not term time.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Grandma as trustee is meant to be looking after financial interests (and remember this is not grandma's money but a trust fund), not rewarding attention with payouts.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Depends on your income levels and consequently how much loan/grant /bursary your offspring gets.
If your income is such that offspring only get non-means tested element, then it won't be enough to cover housing and living expenses.
FWIW we (and quite a few of my friends) do the same, pay the housing costs and leave the students use the loans for living costs.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
