Spending money during mortgage application process

Hello,

I am trying to be a ftb and about a month ago applied for a mortgage via a broker. Last Tuesday Halifax did their survey and apparently tomorrow I will be getting the results so I am pretty nervous at the moment! However it is a shared ownership property so I'm not unduly worried because these types of properties - a new build - have already been valued via the RICS to determine the share price.

So if all goes well it will take approximately another month or 2 to get the mortgage finalised, so my question is at this stage am I allowed to start normal spending or will they still look at my credit card statement? Before I applied for the mortgage I basically stopped going out, eating out etc and had a very boring life but now I'm getting sick of it. I bought an Xbox for £170 and want to buy some clothes in the summer sale but before I do will Halifax check this spend at this stage of the mortgage application process?

Just to confirm I will immediately pay off my card so my credit rating isn't affected.

Many thanks! :j

If you are paying it off, there isn't a problem. Its more massive spends like whacking a grand on but only paying minimum payment.

Lenders aren't interested in the details of your lifestyle, they are interested in whether you can afford it. If you are spending within your means (i.e. paying off your bills on time, which based on your post you are), they aren't going to care what you are spending it all on.

    Good luck!
