Thanks pnq06!
How long on average does St Tropez last with you before you find the need to re-apply? Do you mix it with a moisturiser?

I'm so pale I reflect sunlight! I like the Garnier Summer Body lotion as it adds colour v slowly and smells OK. Johnsons holiday Skin for light skin sent me an unconvincing shade of Jordan/Posh spice orange and stank to high heaven, the friend I passed the bottle too likes it, though. I have some St Tropez Mousse which was a gift and I hate it. It gives a nice colour but is as prone to streaks as any other self tanner plus it fades in patches and left me looking mottled last time I used it.0

I use the l'oreal nutrisummer one and its a good colour and easy to apply, on their website you could get free samples a short while back.
The johnson one sends me a funny colour0 -
I have had a spray tan where your in a booth - not where someone sprays it on you (I couldnt subject some one to doing that on my body) It came out a really lovely colour and stays for over a week. the week after i felt i looked really pale and deathly white
The only problem with it is that the spray is very cold and very powerful it startled me at first - even tho i had been pre warned - and its a thick mist
you should do your back first so you get used to it.0 -
I second (or third) the recommendations for St Tropez - my nickname's Casper cos Im so white and I've tried every tinted moisturiser/fake tan spray/tan towels you can think of and St Tropez is the only one i'm truly happy with.
The moisturisers always make me feel like I smell of beef (or something like it!) and they actually went streaky, esp on my legs, even tho they are supposed to build up naturally.
St Tropez works with your skin tone as well so it won't make you look stupid (although it still shocks me when I wake up the next morning - just what you're used to seeing in the mirror I guess!) - my friend uses it too and she goes darker than me because she's naturally darker anyway, if that makes sense.
Little tip tho, use gloves when you're putting it on (latex ones are best) - then put it all over, mixing with some moisturiser for face, and then take gloves off and do the backs of your hands. Then wash the palms of your hands - then apply moisturiser over your hands/wrists/elbows/knees - I find this stops that orange/white look that makes it so obvious!
Anyway, I'll shut up now, you'd think I had a fake tan fetish!
Let us know how you get on tho whatever you decide to get

Hello everyone! You have all been incredibly helpful and I thank you for that. It's what makes this community so good.
I was just telling Georgina on this board that I got round to trying Boots's No7 Quick Dry Tinted Lotion using their tester on a small area of my right arm last night and really liked the colour I got this morning. It's my first ever tan so I got so excited seeing a new colour for the first time in my life. It was like magic! :T They have a 3 for 2 offer so I bought three of them today. I am still opened minded about the other self-tan lotions as I could always return these three if I don't use them (didn't want to miss the offer in case it ends tomorrow). The sample I used on my right arm last night was from the light/medium lotion and tonight I went back to try a sample of medium/dark on my left arm. I'll be interested to compare the two shades tomorrow morning.
It does work slowly though as it has been 3 hours since I applied the small sample (2 inches area) and still no change. It was the same last night too so I got concerned maybe self-tan doesn't work on me - and when I woke up this morning it was a great feeling to see it did work.
I'll also be keen to watch how long the Boots No7 tan lasts before I need to re-apply.
I wonder why moisturising self-tan lotions are generally cheaper than non-moisturising ones? I noticed for instance that Nivea, Johnson's Holiday Skin and Dove's Summer Glow Body lotion are cheaper than dedicated self-tan lotions from St. Tropez, Boots, L'Oreal and Garnier.0 -

It's interesting though that every self-tan lotion has its critics. Many people love St. Tropez for example so it's interesting you didn't (and there are others who don't like it either). I wonder if this is down to the colour looking different on different people or just a personal preference over colour?0
