Exchanging details
Been toing and froing on this one all day. This morning approaching a roundabout, I changed lanes but not before a motorcyclist clearly thought I was too close to him (although I didn't even cut him up and went back into my lane before changing again) so he slowed down and stopped in front of my car not allowing me to move. Baring in mind, Central London on Saturday it was starting to creat a problem for traffic. After a few non politely exchanged words, he turned his engine off and refused to move as some kind of protest to frustrate me. Which clearly worked, because I needed to get to work so I put the car full lock on left turn to move round him. Clearly he left no room for my car because as I just started to move he shouted I was now touching his bike and started taking photos of my plates. So we both agreed to pull up round the corner and investigate. After both examining his motorcycle it was agreed that no damage had occurred. In fact his exact words were 'you're lucky you didn't scratch my bike'. He even apologised for blocking me. He did however want an apology from me, which I refused to give. This seemed to irritate him. Neither of us asked for contact details of the other person as it was decided there was no damage. As we both decided not to ask for details to be exchanged, I am now concerned he may report the situation and I may be looking at a failure to stop & report if I don't do the same by tomorrow morning. My understanding is that if there was no injury or damage noted, there is no reason to report or exchange details. It seems always the car loses out on these situations against bikes, and I also need to consider premium insurance claims. I'm pulling my hair out, any quick replies would be really appreciated.

I can live with a scratch tbh as I have a couple that need touched up. But this could indicate a possible scratch on his bike that was not first noticed. As we both decided not to ask for details to be exchanged, I am now concerned he may report the situation and I may be looking at a failure to stop & report if I don't do the same by tomorrow morning. If you have something to report you should be doing it now and not waiting until the morning.0 -
I've got nothing to report, but is it an offence to not exchange details if both parties agree no injury or damage?0

Did he have a helmet cam?
I kinda wanna see this one on Youtube
On the other hand exchanging details works both ways, why would he report this if he was in the same position?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Exactly! I thought he may panic worrying that I may report him and get in there first. As you have 24hrs after an incident I could look at fault for not reporting even if we said no damage. Blame could be a technicality if he pulls a fast one on exchanging details.
I'll let you know if it ends up on YouTube!0 -
So what's the relevance of tomorrow morning?
Well in case he gets home, and finds a scratch we missed (or even an old one he tries to blame on me) puts in a report knowing that we didn't exchange which will make it look like I avoided it. I have the option of playing it safe and reporting it within 24hrs too even if I don't have to report the incident but the fact we didn't exchange could cause issues.0 -

You clearly misunderstand your duty to report. You must do it as soon as practicable and any case within 24 hours.0 -
Well the law actually says-
You must give your vehicle registration number, your name and address, and that of the vehicle owner (if different) to anyone with reasonable grounds for asking for those details.
If you do not exchange those details at the scene, you must report the accident at a police station or to a police officer as soon as you can and in any case within 24 hours.
But neither of us asked for each other's details. And as no damage or injury was noted.0 -

No help now, but the correct response is to switch off too, and find something to do in the car. (have a look in the glovebox, read the owners manual or something)
It won't be long before a lot of angry people are pressuring him into getting out of the way.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I shouldn't worry. The police are pretty busy with more important matters.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”
