I would if I had £1700 or money for a solicitor, single mum with his child so lots of stress and hassle unfortunately plus all his debts but thank you for trying to help.

We've all had our dark moments in our lives. Sometimes it's not about winning. But simply breaking free and moving on. You'll get there.

What bank is it? I had a really similar situation with my ex, we set up a joint account when we married and never actually used it.

I hadn't had a card for it in nearly ten years, when we split my ex started using it without my knowledge as he couldn't get an account elsewhere due to his poor account conduct.

Obviously he made a hash of this account too and ended up about £600 overdrawn, first I knew was when I got letters from collections.

I phoned up and explained the situation and Natwest let me pay I think £50/60 and closed the account. Most of the overdraft was charges so I think they may have cancelled them.
Thankfully that was the only financial link I had to my ex!!

You do not need a solicitor - make a token payment and agree something with them even if it is only £1 per month.
Put the account into dispute NOW (ok tomorrow morning).
After that if the other half manages to make any further transactions you won't be responsible for them.
