Samsung Galaxy tablet:hich model have I got

I'm hoping someone can clarify which model I have as I need to buy a case for my tablet.
I bought this off my son who no longer needs it for study. It was purchased from John Lewis in October 2014 and the receipt shows 'Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Tablet 16GB'. However on the box that it came in it is listed as 'Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1' and the model on the back of the package is GT-N8010.
My son purchased a cover from John Lewis at the same which unfortunately did not fit - I've just check again and it is quite a bit too small. He didn't bother to take it back (as he's not a MSEr like his mum). It is a Targus case like this: http://www.targus.com/uk/click-in-samsung-galaxy-note-10_1-2014-note-2-10_1-inch-case-blue-thd11702eu.
So, my question is - how do I know which model I have, and which case I need please? Once I know I can go about ordering one as I'm going away for a few days in a week and really need a case to protect it.
Thanks
PS I've just looked at a video on Youtube and it looks like this is defiitely a Note 10.1 and not the Tab 3 (as stated on the receipt). However, that doesn't explain why it doesn't fit the case nor does it help me find the correct one! Maybe I should pop into John Lewis to get them to help me out!

What does it say on the screen when you switch it on? My galaxy tab says which modelIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

Alternatively, go to Settings, select About Device and then google the model number.0

8010 is the older Note 10.1 the case is for the newer model 2014 .0

That's right. I've just spent an hour or so in John Lewis explaining the story to several different members of staff, including the Samsung rep. The invoice I found was not for this machine: apparently my son (confused about models too) bought the Tab 3 by accident then took it back and exchanged it for this one.
The model I have is the old (pre 2014) model, although it was bought in 2014. That's why the case didn't. John Lewis no longer stock the model so did not have a suitable case. However, they did refund the cost - or at least gave me a gift voucher as I didn't have my son (and his card) with me for a refund. I thought that was quite generous, although it was their fault we had the incorrect case in the first place (and my son's for not returning it sooner!)
Now I am a bit clearer about the models, I will order a Samsung original case and check it is not for the 2014 model. I found some on Amazon which are now very reasonably priced.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Alternately, do as I did, not wanting to make a mistake, I took it into one of those phone shops that sell cases and said, "show me a selection of cases suitable for this machine". They did and that was that. It isn't neccessary to spend a great deal, less that £20 should do it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
